Telling it the truth
Naomi finally revealed the truth to Nina after much deliberation. She had the courage to tell Nina that the people they met were in dire situations and incredibly unfortunate. They were not only without financial resources, but also lacked a home to call theirs.
It was difficult to offer assistance to such individuals, even though many people were willing to do so. Nina noticed that her daughter was trying to comprehend and understand the severity of the situation when Naomi told her about it.
Did Nina wish to help them?
She worried that her daughter was genuinely interested in helping the homeless, but it would be difficult for them to do so because they were already financially strapped. They were both barely surviving, depending on their paychecks and having difficulty meeting their expenses.
The couple was already struggling to meet their basic financial needs. Rent, bills and groceries were a constant battle. Nina’s mother shielded Nina from the reality of their financial situation.
