Tuberculosis: 14 signs and symptoms

12. Coughing Blood

Coughing bloodis a medically alarming symptom. You should consult a doctor as soon as you can to find out the cause.

When you cough blood, it can be a temporary symptom. It could be caused by repeated coughing, or even a severe cold or flu. If it occurs only once or twice it may mean that your capillaries have ruptured. But if this happens repeatedly and is combined with a cough lasting three weeks or more, it is best to get tested for tuberculosis. The coughing up blood is a symptom of TB in its more advanced stages. It can be treated the same as TB in an earlier stage. If you have this or any of the other symptoms, see your doctor for testing and treatment.
