Tuberculosis: 14 signs and symptoms

10. Coughing Sputum

Coughing up sputum or mucusor other thick substances from the lungs is another sign of a serious respiratory illness.

If it is green, this could indicate a number of respiratory illnesses and infections that can be treated with antibiotics. However, if it is thick and white, and includes blood (although it might not), it may be indicative of tuberculosis.

If you see someone “coughing” from the lungs or throat, call your doctor right away. You may have a serious infection that requires immediate medical attention, or you could have tuberculosis.

You are at greater risk if you don’t see a doctor. Your infection could worsen and you may spread the disease to others.
