Tuberculosis: 14 signs and symptoms

9. Lasting Cough

A persistent cough that persists for over three weeks is one of the main symptoms of tuberculosis.

Coughs that last a few weeks are usually caused by a respiratory infection, cold, or allergy. They can also be an asthma attack. Coughing fits can indicate a chronic illness like asthma or pneumonia. Severe coughs lasting more than 3 weeks but less than the flu are most likely temporary infections. See your doctor.

Cough that lasts for several weeks may be caused by a serious respiratory condition, a serious illness or tuberculosis. You should get tested immediately for tuberculosis if you cough up blood or sputum, or if this symptom is accompanied by several of the symptoms listed above.
