Spinal Muscular Atrophy: What you need to know

Assistive equipment

Patients who have difficulty moving around and doing their daily activities can use certain types of assistive equipment. Under the supervision of a physiotherapist or an occupational therapist, patients with severe spinal curvature may also benefit from specific types of equipment. Assistive equipment can include braces or splints for supporting the arms and legs. Mobility equipment, such as walking frames and wheelchairs, can also be used to help with mobility issues. You can also insert orthotics in your shoes for support and assistance when walking.
