Sesame Oil: 10 Uses Practical

9. Cancer Prevention

According to the American Cancer Society, over 26 000 people will be diagnosed with gastrointestinal Cancer in 2018. The disease is more prevalent in men than women. This form of cancer may not always be fatal, but it can have a dramatic impact on the quality of life of those affected.

Sesame oil contains lignans, which are anti-cancer agents. Sesamol reduces the growth and spread of cancer cells in the digestive system by inhibiting melanin production. According to a Korean study, adding sesame seed oil to the diet can reduce cancer risk.

In 2018, one in eight women in the United States is expected to develop breast cancer. Sesamin, a polyphenol lignan, reduces breast cancer tumors. It also prevents them from spreading. In the intestine, sesame seed lignans are converted to enterodiol or enterolactone. These estrogen-like chemicals reduce breast cancer risk. Cooking with sesame and eating it raw can help prevent cancer in both men and women.
