Sesame Oil: 10 Uses Practical

6. Relief from Anxiety

Anxiety disorders affects over 40 million Americans over 18 years of age. Anxiety is the most common mental illness in America. Xanax is a drug that relieves anxiety and stress symptoms, but it can be harmful to the liver and has a tendency for abuse.

Sesame oil is a natural substitute for drug therapy. It may not be able to replace medication but it can provide a support role. The body produces amino acids, which are the building blocks for proteins and hormones that support metabolic function. L-tryptophan, one of these amino acids is responsible for controlling feelings of anxiety.

L-tryptophan is responsible for the sedation you feel after eating turkey at Thanksgiving. L-tryptophan is found in sesame oil. The liver converts L-tryptophan into serotonin and melatonin when it breaks down this amino acid. These biochemicals are known to have nootropic effects, which improve mood, reduce stress, improve sleep quality, and increase feelings well-being.
