Nine Responses to What Causes Dry Mouth

3.Rest

Lack of sleep can cause your mouth to become parched, along with a multitude of other issues. Did you know that the brain engaged in neural ‘pruning’ during the night? Literally sorting through your recollections and knowledge to ensure that everything is operating at peak efficiency?

Do not lose sleep!

However, you may also be surprised to learn that sleep can induce dehydration! The reason for this is that you don’t produce as much saliva during the night and of course you won’t be regularly drinking anything as you’re unconscious!

If you’re concerned about this then, try to solve the problem by having a glass of water by the bed.
The thing to remember though is that going short periods without water isn’t that bad for you. In fact, some studies suggest that it may be advantageous due to a process known as autophagy.
