Nine Responses to What Causes Dry Mouth

Although a parched mouth may not sound like the worst thing in the world, it can be quite distressing in certain situations. Not only is it bothersome in and of itself, but it can also cause a number of secondary symptoms and point to other, potentially more serious complications.

Dry mouths can cause bad odor, also known as halitosis. This is due to the fact that saliva functions as a disinfectant and bacteria are responsible for the odor. Similarly, a dry mouth can lead to the development of ulcers, cause you to bite your lips, lead to cracked skin, and even increase your risk of becoming unwell.

Dry mouth can be caused by a variety of factors, and consequently, there are a variety of ways to treat the condition. You will gain a better understanding of how to address the problem after reviewing the following nine causes of parched mouth.

1.Medicament

Multiple medications can cause parched mouth. Modafinil, for instance, is a prescription medication used to treat narcolepsy (a condition that causes patients to fall unconscious without warning, regardless of location). This is effective against that issue, but one of the side effects is a very parched mouth.

When searching for a potential cause, it is essential to consider whether you have recently initiated a new course of medication. Also bear in mind that non-therapeutic drugs may be contributing to the issue. Particularly alcohol and tobacco are likely to cause parched mouth.

Similarly, it is highly probable that caffeine can produce dry mouth. All of these beverages are dehydrating because they contain diuretics. In addition, they can increase your levels of stress hormones (cortisol, dopamine, and others), which will result in an increasingly parched mouth.
