Bacterial Vaginosis: 14 Causes

12. Regular Sex

Regular sex with more than one sexual partner can increase your risk for contracting a condition such as bacterial vaginosis. If the sex is in a group, and not everyone wears protection, then there’s a higher risk of contracting bacterial vaginosis. Women are also more likely to spread it through unprotected sexual activity.

Even though bacterial vagina is not an STD but an infection, it still can be spread by sex. Unprotected sexual contact and multiple sexual partners can both cause the pH balance to change in the vagina, killing the healthy bacteria. They can also cause bacterial vaginitis.

If you notice symptoms, you should stop having sex and ensure that any sex with multiple partners is protected.

Do not over-douch as part of your daily hygiene routine. This can lead to bacterial vaginosis.
