14 signs of throat problems

1. Soreness

Sometimes the throat is simply sore. This can be caused by either a virus, or the strep bacterium. The soreness can be mild or very painful. The area becomes inflamed if the soreness is caused by bacteria.

It can be difficult to speak or swallow. The soreness in your throat can be caused by many different ailments, and it may be just a cold-related side effect. It is important to consult your doctor if you experience a persistent sore neck that persists for more than a few days.

Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics in order to clear the infection. The soreness will go away over time if the cause is a viral infection. Cough drops and cough medicine can ease the pain of a sore neck.
