14 Reasons Why you have Upper Abdominal Pain

14 Reasons Why you have Upper Abdominal Pain

3. Stomach Virus

Stomach virus can cause stomach and abdominal pain. The pain can be mild or severe and last a few hours to a few days. It is not unusual for an entire family to be infected with the same stomach virus.

In schools, gyms and workplaces outbreaks are common. There is no way to stop a stomach bug, but they are usually not serious. Stomach viruses are contagious and can lead to severe dehydration.

Seek medical attention if symptoms persist for longer than three days. Sometimes, symptoms of stomach viruses can be mistaken for more serious conditions requiring medical attention. When vomiting and diarrhea stop, abdominal pain will usually disappear.
