14 Factors Contributing to Serotonin Syndrome

  1. Serotonin Catabolism

In some instances, a person’s body may be unable to correctly metabolize serotonin. They may develop serotonin syndrome as a result. Some individuals merely do not metabolize serotonin as quickly as it is produced. When there is an excess of serotonin in the body, the symptoms of serotonin syndrome may manifest.

However, some individuals who produce excessive serotonin exhibit no symptoms. If your body metabolizes serotonin slowly and you are prescribed a serotonin-increasing medication, you may experience a variety of health problems and symptoms. Sadly, you may not realize this until you begin taking one of these medications. You may experience the symptoms of serotonin syndrome if you add one of these medications to your regimen or change one of your current medications.
