10 Fermented Foods that Supercharge Gut Flora

8. Yogurt

Dairy is not recommended by many health experts as part of a healthy diet. Adding organic, unpasteurized to your diet will improve your gut health. Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus and other probiotic bacteria are found in yogurt. Research suggests that adding yogurt into your diet can increase the diversity of bacteria in your digestive tract.

You will benefit from the enhanced absorption of vitamins, minerals and other foods. Probiotics and enzymes found in yogurt help improve intestinal health and lactose digestion. Improved GI health leads to improved immune function and resistance to bacterial infections.

Unpasteurized yogurt is different from yogurt produced commercially. Organic dairy products are made from cows fed on grass and not treated with growth hormones or antibiotics. Avoid commercial brands and buy yogurt from dairy sources that are sustainably managed and farmed.
